'81 Moto Guzzi Convert

This page is dedicated to our little "project" bike.

The Bike:
Meet "Connie" our '81 Moto Guzzi Convert (as of June 2006).

Background:
We started this project bike in July 2005 with the idea to take this classic bike and it give it a "makeover." Not an "extreme" makeover, but just update it a bit. Basically applying my deep "Connecticut Yankee" philosophy of keeping the original idea and design, just adding and improving with modern technology.

Phase 1: July 2005
This is what we started with.

Phase 2: August 2005

  • Fairing and bags removed.
  • New headlamps, spotlights and signals front and rear.
  • 120 mph speedo
  • Restored dash, added lighted switch for spotlights.
  • Restored kickstand/emergency brake mechanism.

I thought the convert was running pretty good when I got it. I rode it an hour and half home, a couple of short trips around town, and another hour out to Winchester... but that was only on ONE CYLINDER apparently!!!!!. What a bike.

Phase 3: April 2006

  • Air intake rebuild replacing main intake hoses etc.
  • DynaIII Ignition.
  • Paint (Portofino Blue)
  • K&N Air Filters
  • Kryakyn Mirrors

Phase 3: Plan for Summer 2006

  • Add the Gobi Bags.
  • Add top box
  • Add luggage rack
  • Add Solo Seat.

Update as of August 2006
Well the Gobi bags are mounted, and I've ordered what I think will make a nice top box. We've decided to make a luggage rack also, so that is now on the updated to do list.
